Pipe up and start loving your drainage - study reveals the nation’s worst drainage hotspots

Pipe up and start loving your drainage - study reveals the nation’s worst drainage hotspots

With there being so many misconceptions about which items are acceptable to put down your drain, you’re not alone in thinking it’s fine to flush the odd ‘flushable’ wipe, or pour the leftover fat from your roasting tray down the sink.

However, the latest study from drainage specialist, Lanes Group, hopes to bust some common myths about what’s suitable to put down our drains - with their advice being, if it’s not one of the three P’s (toilet paper, pee or poo) or water, then it shouldn’t be going near your loo or plughole.

The study of 1,101 UK adults, looked to highlight the nation’s bad flushing habits, and the worst cities for them. Overall, Birmingham came out as the worst, with a shocking 87% flushing items deemed unsuitable for drainage systems.

Switch on to Heating System Efficiency

Switch on to Heating System Efficiency

Historically many within the heating industry have seen September as the start of the heating season and as a result, the start of the breakdown and system failure calls. Here Richard Sharp at Xylem advises on those added extras that can make a big difference to system efficiency but also keep you front of mind with homeowners throughout the year.

In 2013, September saw temperatures across the UK peak at 30C, but then in 2014 it was the coolest September since 1994, according to the Met Office. Of course temperature is a personal thing and not everyone will want heating on at the same time, but as many installers know when the mercury truly begins to fall that’s when the flood gates traditionally open with breakdown calls and system failures.

Heritage Bathrooms collaborates with British designer on Limited Edition brassware collection

Heritage Bathrooms has joined forces with designer and illustrator Eleanore Longhurst to create a stunning new range of Limited Edition brassware, tapping into the popular consumer trend for more bespoke and distinctive finishes in the bathroom.

A custom creation for Heritage Bathrooms, the brand new Lymington Lace taps and coordinating shower, launched this summer, saw creator Eleanore take inspiration from popular looks within the fabric industry, including baroque lace designs and floral patterns, before settling on the final design - which was mainly influenced by popular vintage doily patterns.

ADEY rescues community heating system

Securing funding for large-scale community projects can be a thankless task, so when the 30 year-old heating and hot water system at Pheasey Community Hub in Walsall began to fail and needed replacing, ADEY Professional Heating Solutions stepped in to help.

A busy centre for local classes and events including a special needs group, the debilitating build-up of black magnetite sludge in the heating system had been causing significant problems, particularly during the winter months. With the system nearing collapse and costing the centre an overwhelming amount each month to maintain, the self-funded, volunteer-led group was unable to fund the work. An appeal was made to local installers and manufacturers to help fit a new system and supply the products needed.
